Help with GlazeTag

Why is cone a text field instead of a number?

Because cone 06 and cone 6 are different firings, and treating cone as a number loses that. GlazeTag stores exactly what you type and never converts it to a temperature.

Can I record the application as something other than a number of coats?

Yes. Application is free text on every layer. One dip, 2 brushed coats, sprayed thin and a wipe at the rim are all equally valid, because that is how the work actually gets described.

How many layers can one tile have?

Up to 12. Each layer has room for a glaze or material name of up to 100 characters and an application note of up to 200 characters. Result notes run to 4000 characters.

Does GlazeTag need access to my whole photo library?

No. Photographs come from the camera or from the system photo picker, which hands the app only the images you pick. GlazeTag does not request full library access and does not write to your photo library.

How do I compare two tiles?

Select exactly two and open the comparison. Their photographs, clay, cone and ordered layers are shown against each other. Two, rather than any number, because comparing a pair is the thing you actually do at the bench.

Can I print or share a single tile?

Yes. A tile can be shared or printed as a PDF record containing its photographs and its full written process, including long notes.

How do backups work?

GlazeTag exports your whole library to a single file named something like GlazeTag-backup-2026-08-12.glazetagbackup, which you save wherever you keep files. Importing that file into GlazeTag on another iPhone brings the records back.

One backup holds up to 2000 tiles and up to about 268 MB (256 MiB) in total, with up to 3 photos on each tile. A library past those limits is reported rather than half saved.

GlazeTag checks the whole file before it changes anything, then shows you how many tiles it holds and asks what to do. Add to my library keeps your existing records and brings the new ones in, giving a new code to any tile whose code is already in use. Replace my library replaces your current records and photos with the ones in the file.

If the file is damaged or unreadable the import stops at the checking stage and your library is left exactly as it was.

How reliable are the colors in my photographs?

A photograph records what your camera saw, and its appearance varies with your lighting and with the screen you view it on. That is still genuinely useful for recognizing a tile again and for reading the difference between two of them. These are your own photographs rather than color certified samples.

Does GlazeTag work out results or safety for me?

No. GlazeTag records your own observations. It does not predict fired results or assess glaze safety, so those questions stay with your glaze supplier's own data and your own testing.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later. GlazeTag is an iPhone app and works without a network connection.

I bought it. How do I get it on a new phone?

Sign in to the same Apple Account and download GlazeTag again from the App Store. It is a one time purchase, so there is nothing further to pay and nothing to restore inside the app. Your records do not travel with the purchase: move them with an exported backup file.

Is there a subscription?

No. One purchase, every feature, no in-app purchases and no adverts. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

How do I delete my data?

Delete records inside the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on the device. Copies you made yourself are separate: any backup file or PDF you exported sits wherever you saved it, and a device backup taken while the app was installed may still contain your records. Delete those separately if you want them gone.
